'Friends of Beaufort House ....

Sadly Beaufort House had to be de-constructed following the aftermath of the February 22 earthquake 2011. Dr Victor Lam declared the building a total loss as the unsupported masonry walls had been shattered by the incredible forces experienced that day.

The only section still standing is the original southern entrance (front door)which has been propped and retained pending a decision to rebuild. A series of successive earthquakes and the increased costs of construction have delayed this decision. Piling and special foundations are a certain prerequisite.
